It focuses on various aspects of public speaking, including vocal variety, capturing audience attention, eliminating filler words and distracting body language, time management, handling questions, and concluding presentations with impact.

    Course Objective:

    On completion of this course, participants will be able:

    Course Outline:

    Day 1:
    • Speak Clearly and Confidently:
    • Develop the ability to speak with clarity and confidence during presentations.
    • Learn techniques to vary voice, tone, pace, and volume for effective communication.
    • Adapt communication style for different audience types.
    • Overcome nervousness and stage fright.
    2. Capture Audience Attention:
    • Utilize humor and engaging techniques to capture and maintain audience attention.
    • Explore the effective use of available resources, such as posters, PowerPoint slides, and personal stories, to reinforce key messages.
    • Incorporate life stories and experiences to enhance audience engagement.
    3. Eliminate Filler Words and Distracting Body Language:
    • Identify and eliminate filler words to ensure clear and concise delivery.
    • Develop awareness of distracting body language and employ techniques to minimize its impact.
    Day 2: 4. Master Time Management Skills:
    • Acquire time management skills to deliver presentations within short time frames.
    • Adapt and adjust presentations effectively in response to sudden session shortening or time constraints.
    5. Handle Audience Questions:
    • Learn strategies to handle questions from the audience confidently and effectively.
    • Develop techniques for gracefully admitting when unsure of an answer.
    • Manage rude disruptions and interruptions with professionalism and poise.
    6. End with Impact and Call to Action:
    • Master the art of concluding presentations with impact, leaving a lasting impression on the audience.
    • Develop key points that are easily remembered and reinforce the core message.
    • Skillfully invite the audience to take action, such as trying or purchasing products.

No prior experience is required, making it accessible to beginners and those looking to refine their existing skills.

    Entry Requirements:

    Participants are assumed to:
    • Be able to listen, read and write English at a proficiency level equivalent Workplace Literacy (WPL) Level 4 Low Intermediate (Lower Secondary) and above; and
    • Be able to manipulate numbers at a proficiency level equivalent to Workplace Numeracy (WPN) Level 4 Low Intermediate (Lower Secondary) and above.

    Training Medium:

    This course is conducted in English/Mandarin.

    Training Methodology:

    The course will use a combination of the following methods to ensure effective learning and skill development:
    • Lectures and Presentations: To provide theoretical knowledge, principles and best practices in public speaking and effective presentations.
    • Group Discussions: To encourage exchange of ideas, share experiences and discuss challenges related to public speaking and presentations.
    • Practice Sessions and Simulations: To practice their presentation skills through individual and group exercises.
    Simulations and role-plays will help participants develop confidence, overcome nervousness, and refine their delivery style.

    Assessment Methodology:

    Role-play a 10mins presentation at the end of the course.

    Certification:

    A Certificate of Proficiency will be awarded to participants upon completing and passing the assessments. Otherwise, a Certificate of Participation will be issued to those who attained a minimum attendance of 75%.
