Essential Skills for Engineers: Quality Systems, Data & Project Management
Course Objective:
Upon completion of this course, learners will be able to:
-
Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of QMS principles and the practical application of ISO 9001 standards in implementing a basic QMS.
-
Proficiently apply SPC, data analysis, and RCA techniques to monitor, improve, and troubleshoot manufacturing processes.
-
Effectively plan, execute, and manage manufacturing projects using appropriate methodologies, risk management strategies, and communication techniques.
Course Outline:
Module 1: Introduction to Quality Management Systems (QMS)
-
Core Principles of QMS: This section introduces the fundamental concepts of Quality Management Systems, emphasizing customer focus, process approach, continual improvement, and the importance of a robust QMS framework.
-
Key QMS Standards: This section provides a brief overview of widely recognized QMS standards, primarily focusing on ISO 9001.
-
Implementing a Basic QMS: This section will cover the practical steps involved in implementing a basic QMS. This includes developing a quality manual, defining processes, establishing procedures, and assigning responsibilities.
Module 2: Essential Quality Tools and Techniques
-
Statistical Process Control (SPC): Introduces the basic principles of SPC, including the use of control charts (X-bar and R charts, p-charts, c-charts) to monitor and control processes.
-
Data Analysis for Quality Improvement: Fundamental data analysis techniques relevant to quality improvement, such as histograms, Pareto charts, and scatter diagrams.
-
Problem-solving: Utilize Root Cause Analysis (RCA)/Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA)/ 8 Disciplines (8D) techniques to troubleshoot manufacturing processes effectively.
Module 3: Fundamentals of Project Management (18 hours)
-
Project Management Methodologies: Introduction to project management methodologies such as Agile and Waterfall. Discussion of their applications in manufacturing projects.
-
Project Planning and Scheduling: Creating project plans, developing schedules, and managing resources effectively.
-
Risk Management: Identifying, assessing, and mitigating project risks.
-
Project Communication and Reporting: Effective communication techniques, progress reporting, and stakeholder management.
