Synopsis:

This course is developed to enable participants to acquire knowledge and skills in bringing the resources and processes together to achieve the organisational set goals using a variety of process improvement methodologies. It involves adopting a systematic approach in improving a process through process mapping, analyse the process and redesign the process.

 

Course Objective:

On completion of this course, participants will be able to adopt systematic approaches in managing problems and making decisions in a technical environment.

 

Course Outline:

The knowledge and skills covered in this module include:

Knowledge:

  • Main components of workflow (i.e. Equipment, system, process, etc.) and data collection points
  • Types of problem solving tools (i.e. IS/IS-NOT, ‘Differences and Changes’, Design of Experiments, Fish-Bone Diagram, etc.)
  • Types of assessment and selection tools (i.e. Pro-Con analysis, Cost-Benefit analysis, etc.)
  • Organisational Approval Procedures
  • Types of implementation methods (i.e. Process change, equipment re-design, training, specifications, etc.)
  • Usage of monitoring tools (i.e. Templates, measuring equipment, charts, etc.)

Skills:

  • Determine sources of variation, through data collection
  • Diagnose problem and define root cause
  • Verify root cause
  • Propose a technical solution
  • Implement technical solution
  • Monitor the effectiveness of technical solution
  • Update technical specifications

Entry Requirements:

Participants are assumed to:

  • Have an in depth knowledge of their organisational work processes;
  • Have presentation skills;
  • Have good knowledge of workplace quality control systems;
  • Have good knowledge in using statistical process control tools and techniques;
  • Be able to apply effective problem-solving techniques;
  • Be able to apply effective leadership skills in managing and leading co-workers;
  • Be able to listen, read and write English at a proficiency level equivalent to the Workplace Literacy (WPL) Level 8-Proficient (“A” Levels and above); 
Essential Requirement:

Participants are required to bring their personal laptop for the work assignment.

Training Medium:

This course is conducted in English.

 

Training Methodology:

This course is delivered through lectures, discussions and case studies.

 

Assessment Methodology:

A work assignment and presentation is conducted at the end of the course.

 

Certification:

A Certificate of Proficiency will be awarded to participants upon completing and passing the assessment. Otherwise, a Certificate of Participation will be issued to those who attained a minimum attendance of 75%.
