Certified Operations Specialist (COS)

The Certified Operations Specialist (COS) course is a certification of the Generic Manufacturing Skills WSQ, an initiative of WDA. There are 4 modules (or Competency Units) in COS and 3 of which are common with another WSQ certification offered by ELITC, known as the Certificate in Generic Manufacturing Skills - Integration (CGM-I). Course outlines for the 4 modules are:

Modules

1.  Apply Teamwork at the Workplace (TW)

     - Participate in team establishment

     - Participate in developing a team culture

     - Communicating with team performance

2.  Apply Teamwork at the Workplace (TW)

     - SEIRI ~ Clear unnecessary items from work area

     - SEITON ~ Organise work area in an orderly manner

     - SEISO ~ Clean work area

     - SEIKETSU ~ Maintain work area cleanliness

     - SHITSUKE ~ Maintain self-discipline in work area

3.  Apply Quality Systems (QS)

     - Plan daily work to meet quality systems requirements

     - Carry out daily work to meet quality systems requirements

     - Maintain work quality

     - Improve work quality

4.  Apply Workplace Safety and Health Policy (WSH)

     - Plan daily work to meet workplace safety and health requirements

     - Identify and monitor hazards at work

     - Comply with requirements of WSH at the workplace

     - Implement measures risk control

All modules can be taken independently or in any sequence. a Statement of Attainment (SOA) will be awarded for completing each of the modules, and the COS for obtaining SOAs for all 4 modules.

Modules 1 to 3 are the asme modules in Certificate in Generic Manufacturing Skills - Integration (CGM-I). Participants who have SOAs in these 3 modules from CGM-I will need only to attend Module 4 in WSH to obtain the COS, and this applies vice versa.

Duration

Each module - 16 hours                                   Full COS course - 64 hours

For Whom

In promoting lifelong learning, this course serves to provide a pathway for acquiring new skills, skills upgrading, and retraining. This course is applicable for all levels of the workforce. Participants must have a basic understanding of English or Mandarin, depending on the language of instruction.

Certified Operations Professional (COP)

The Certified Operations Professional (COP) course is a WSQ certification of WDA. Concepts in supervising and managing areas of operations management are covered in this course and they are applicable across all industries whereby management of operations are involved. The 4 modules and the course outlines covered are:

Modules

1.  Supervise Teams at Work (TS)

     - Form work teams

     - Lead workplace teams activities

     - Maintain team performance

2.  Supervise Work Improvement Processes (WIP)

     - Plan work improvement activities

     - Implement work improvement processes

     - Standardise improved work processes

Note: Participants for this module are required to handle an improvement project at their workplace. About 2 weeks after their classroom training, they are required to present their project report on work process improvement activities at workplace for assessment.

3.  Supervise Quality Procedures (QP)

     - Plan daily quality control work activities

     - Facilitate and control process quality

     - Maintain process quality

Note: Participants for this module are required to handle an improvement project at their workplace. About 2 weeks after their classroom training, they are required to present their project report on quality improvement activities at workplace for assessment.

4.  Supervise Workplace Safety and Health Practices (WSHS)

     - Plan workplace safety and health activities

     - Implement safe work practices

     - Maintain workplace risk control measures

 

Although all modules can be taken independently, it is preferred that the first 3 modules are taken in that order. A Statement of Attainment (SOA) will be awarded for completing each of the modules, and the COP for obtaining SOAs for all 4 modules.

Duration

Modules 1 and 4 - 24 hours per module

Modules 2 and 3 - 16 hours per module                  Full COP course - 80 hours

For Whom

This course is developed for professionals, managers, executives and technicians (PMETs) to equip them with new and better skills in supervising and managing of operations. Participants must have good understanding of English as they are expected to be able to plan, organize, control and lead subordinates at their workplace.

Nitec in Electronics (Computer & Networking)

The National ITE Certificate (Nitec) is a certification of the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) of Singapore. ELITC offers Nitec in Electronics (Computer & Networking) for skills upgrading of the workforce to meet the needs of the industry of better qualified workers and to provide a post-secondary education pathway for upgrading.

There are 8 modules to complete the Nitec certification. However, participants may complete 4 of the modules for an intermediate Nitec certificate. The course can be conducted either in English or Mandarin. The modules are:

Duration

Each module - 120 hours

All participants are to sit for the ITE's modular examinations. The dates for these examinations are fixed by ITE and participants must be present at the examination venue(s) assigned by ITE and be on time.

For Whom

This course is for the rank and file workers in the manufacturing industry seeking to upgrade as a skilled worker. Participants must have basic understanding of English or Mandarin relevant to the language of instruction and with a minimum educational qualification of having passed: at least 2 'O' level subjects; or 'N' level with Maths and 2 other subjects; or the Entrance test conducted by ITE in order to qualify for admission into the course.

In view of the current economic situation, and to help companies to reduce costs, the following fees have been reduced:

These are one-package course fees including examination fees set by ITE. In ELITC, there are no additional fees for training notes, use of tools and equipment and consumable materials.
