GENERIC MANUFACTURING SKILLS WORKFORCE SKILLS QUALIFICATIONS (GMS WSQ) CERTIFIED OPERATIONS SPECIALIST (COS)
Programme Objective The Generic Manufacturing Skills Workforce Skills Qualifications (GMS WSQ) is a national continuing education and training system designed for adult workers, jointly developed by the industry and Singapore Workforce Development Agency (WDA), to determine the cross-cutting generic skills required by the Manufacturing Industry. It aims to support and facilitate specialized training and skills development to enhance the workforce, which will lead to an increase in the industry's overall competitiveness and productivity. The Certified Operations Specialist (COS) course is a certification of the GMS WSQ, an initiative of WDA. There are 4 modules (or Competency Units) in COS and 3 of which are common with another WSQ certification offered by ELITC, known as the Certificate in Generic Manufacturing Skills - Integration (CGM-I).
Course Details The course modules comprise the following: Modules 1 to 3 are 3 common modules at Level 2 of CGM. Level 2 CGM comprises of modules which are generic across all clusters of manufacturing skills, viz. Precision, Process, Integration (electronics included in this cluster), and Logistics.
All modules can be taken independently or in any sequence. A Statement of Attainment (SOA) will be awarded for completing each of the modules, and the COS of obtaining SOAs for all 4 modules. Participants who have SOAs in the first 3 modules from CGM-I will need only to attend Module 4 in WSH to obtain the COS, and this applies vice versa.
Duration Each module - 16 hours Full COS course - 64 hours
Target Group In promoting lifelong learning, this course serves to provide a pathway for acquiring new skills, skills upgrading, and retraining. This course is applicable for all levels of the workforce. Participants must have a basic understanding of English or Mandarin, depending on the language of instruction.
